Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh visits IIT-K

Kanpur: Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh visited Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur.Lt Gen Singh was welcomed by Director, IIT-K prof Manindra Agrawal, Dean R&D Tarun Gupta and nodal faculty in-charge Kantesh Balani on his arrival on Monday. During his visit, discussions emphasised a strong need for joint engagement of the Indian Army with IIT-K for modernisation through technology infusion in the Indian Army.
Prof Agrawal appreciated the synergy and noted that emerging technologies such AI, autonomous systems, and electronic warfare are reshaping military operations, thereby necessitating the modernisation of defence technologies. He added that IIT Kanpur is at the forefront of research in areas such as AI, cyber security, and unmanned autonomous systems, and can therefore offer innovative solutions for deployment in real-world military contexts.Lt Gen also visited the Helicopter & VTOL Lab and the UAV Lab led by prof Subrahmanyam Saderla from the department of aerospace engineering. He also visited the C3iHub and discussed the latest cyber security developments. He also visited the defence production facilities of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) in Kanpur to review ongoing manufacturing activities and assess progress in indigenous capability development.Designated director (Operations) Kishore Gurdasani welcomed him and briefed him on key focus areas of AWEIL for weapon production and indigenisation.
