Kovind advocates for ‘One Nation, One Election’ policy
Kanpur: Former President Ram Nath Kovind, while visiting the city on Friday said that the ‘One Nation, One Election' policy apart from enhancing the nation's developmental progress would yield substantial benefits, including a GDP increase of one to one and a half per cent.The former President unveiled a new facility at a private healthcare centre in Swaroop Nagar. He discussed the establishment of a high-level committee to evaluate ‘One Nation, One Election', noting that the Law Commission produced two reports on this subject.The ‘One Nation, One Election' system operated in the country until 1966. Kovind termed this initiative transformative and confirmed the submission of its report to the JPC. The implementation timeline suggests commencement in 2029, with full execution anticipated by 2034, promising various advantages. He pointed out that while a Samajwadi Party representative previously supported this measure in Parliament, the party has since withdrawn its backing. To strengthen public confidence, the report received endorsement from four retired Supreme Court judges.Regarding healthcare improvements, he advocated for the PPP model's adoption, explaining that govt resources are limited, and this approach could enhance medical service delivery to patients.
