Pandu river
, a tributary of the holy Ganga, is likely to be made pollution-free soon as National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued further directives to improve its health.
The municipal corporation has decided that the discharge from drains would be sent to sewerage
treatment plant
at Bingawan and bioremediation method would be used to treat the effluent of four nullahs before it flows into river Pandu.
The drains include ICICI nullah which passes from Panki Industrial Estate, Rafaqa nullah and Halwa Khera nullah.
According to sources, around 10 crore litre of polluted water from the four nullahs flows into the
Pandu river.
It has been decided that KMC will spend Rs 2 crore on bioremediation.
Under bioremediation process discharge of four nullahs would be checked at several points and treated with chemicals and plants. Bioremediation involves the use of microbes to clean contaminated soil and groundwater. Bioremediation stimulates the growth of certain microbes that use contaminants as a source of food and energy.
KMC executive engineer R K Singh said that the discharge of four nullahs would be treated by bioremediation method and then the treated water would flow into the river till the diversion of nullah towards Bingawan treatment plant.
