KANPUR: A 25-year-old deaf and dumb youth was run over by train on Thursday morning and his family members created a ruckus and halted the Kalindi Express for nearly half-an-hour near the Zareeb Chowki area under the Seesamau police station.
Asif Khan, son of Haji Mohd Haseeb, a resident of the Kanghi Mohal area went missing on Thursday morning. Later, his family received information that a body was found near the railway tracks in Zareeb Chowki area.
The members immediately reached the spot and identified him.
The Seesamau police further directed them to approach the GRP. The GRP however refused to lodge an FIR. They again approached the Seesamau police but they received the same reply. Irked, the family and neighbours of the youth staged a massive protest on the railway tracks and halted the Kalindi Express for nearly half-an-hour. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators and an FIR was finally lodged.
While the Seesamau police refused to comment, the GRP personnel said since Asif's body had been lying by the side of the railway tracks and the Seesamau police were the first to be informed, the FIR should have been lodged there. Finally, on the orders of a senior police officer, the Seesamau police lodged an FIR.
