Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) expressed its confidence in all-rounder
Karan Sharma, declaring him the
Ranji Trophy captain.
Sharma made his first-class debut in 2022 when he was fielded by UPCA in a Ranji Trophy match. The Lucknow Super Giants purchased him in the auction for the Indian Premier League this season. He is a reliable right-hand batsman and right-arm off break bowler. UP will commence its Ranji Trophy campaign on Oct 15 with a clash against Andhra Pradesh at Green Park. Dr Sanjay Kapoor, chairman of the media committee, announced the UP Ranji Trophy team on Friday. The UP Ranji Trophy team comprises Karan Sharma (captain), Aryan Juyal (vice-captain), Abhishek Goswami, Madhav Kaushik, Priyam Garg, Rinku Singh, Aradhya Yadav, Prashant Veer, Siddharth Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Aquib Khan, Kunal Tyagi, Vaibhav Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar, Vipraj Nigam, Shivam Sharma, and Aditya Sharma. The net bowlers are Vineet Pawar, Zeeshan Ansari, Jasmer Dhankar, Nadeem, Karan Chaudhary, and Rohit Dwivedi.
The UP team was selected by the senior selection committee in consultation with its new coach Arvind Kapoor and second coach Mohd Amir. Uttar Pradesh will play its first three matches at home, with UPCA deciding to conduct them at Green Park. The biggest hurdle for UP is the presence of Vidarbha, the defending Ranji Trophy champions in their pool. Vidarbha had recently defeated Rest of India team and won the Irani Trophy.
