Tributes and accolades ruled the social media on Tuesday as the locals commemorated their most lovable president, APJ Abdul Kalam. Denizens expressed grief at the sudden demise of the ‘missile man’ and paid tributes to him on social platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

KANPUR: Tributes and accolades ruled the social media on Tuesday as the locals commemorated their most lovable president, APJ Abdul Kalam. Denizens expressed grief at the sudden demise of the ‘missile man’ and paid tributes to him on social platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
Some people put his inspiring quotes at their status’ while others pour their heart for the ‘people’s president’.

Hashtags like #RIPDrKalam, #RIP#KalamSir#Visionary, #KalamSir and #MissileMan ruled the social media. “An immensely tragic day for India…No words would be enough to describe this loss,” wrote Piyush Kukreja, an entrepreneur on his Facebook wall. “An exceptional human being…a great scientist and a wonderful national leader…the country will always salute you Kalam Sir!” wrote Amit Bhadauria, a student.
Many residents of the city shared pictures from the past, when they met Kalam during his visit to the city. Sudeep Mishra shared a picture that showed him receiving an award for excellence in academics from Dr. Kalam during his visit to the city in 2007.
“Blessed to have met the great soul: A day to remember,” wrote Mishra, on his facebook profile. Another local, Bhomika Parti wrote, “I am glad I had the opportunity to see you once in reality in my life, Mr. Kalam.”
While people expressed their sense of loss on Twitter and Facebook, instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp were noticeably flooded with photos, quotes and stories of the noted scientist. “When I am dead, do not declare a holiday. Instead, work a day extra - Kalam sir's profound words,” read a message doing rounds on WhatsApp throughout the day on Tuesday. Even on the messenger, the Kanpurities replaced their display pictures with Abdul Kalam’s inspiring quotes and made them their status.
