KANPUR: Police on Wednesday arrested the Kannauj rape survivor’s absconding aunt who had allegedly escorted the girl to the college of the accused, former block pramukh
Nawab Singh Yadav, on Aug 11.
Police said that the aunt of the 15-year-old rape survivor had a close connection with Yadav and was named in the FIR as a co-accused in the case and was charged with criminal conspiracy.
Yadav was arrested and sent to jail on Aug 12 while the girl’s aunt was on the run.
Superintendent of police, Kannauj, Amit Kumar Anand said, “The girl’s aunt, who was arrested from a place near her maternal home in the district, has confessed that she knew Nawab Singh Yadav for the last 5-6 years and also had physical relationship with him.”
The SP said that Yadav’s brother also tried to offer money to the survivor and asked her to refrain from undergoing medical examination and implicate someone else in the case to divert investigation.
After the medical examination of the survivor confirmed rape, Yadav’s DNA sample was also collected. The girl’s aunt was present in the hospital during her medical examination and went missing after the survivor’s parents accused her of conspiring with Yadav.
The Kannauj SP had formed six police teams which conducted raids in Delhi, Noida, and NCR to arrest her.
Yadav’s arrest had triggered a war of words between the BJP and SP. The BJP claimed that the accused was an SP functionary and close to SP’s first family, but Kannauj district SP chief said that he was no longer associated with the party.
