Kanpur: The Auraiya police have arrested an inspector and a sub-inspector posted in Kanpur Dehat, besides four others in connection with the loot incident wherein a jeweler of Banda was looted 50
kg of silver on June 6 night at the Bundelkhand Expressway in the district.
Both the cops are posted at Bhognipur Kotwali police station of Kanpur Dehat district.
Following interrogation of the two, it came to fore that a head constable Ramshankar posted at the Bhognipur Kotwali was also involved in this
robbery. When the police launched a search to detain him, he was found absconding.
The incident happened while jeweler Manish Soni of Banda, along with his three relatives, was heading to Auraiya via Bundelkhand expressway in his Creta car, when the cops and their aides over the pretext of checking robbed him of 50 kg of silver.
After being robbed, on June 7 he got the case registered in Auraiya. Taking serious cognizance of the incident of loot which was done by the policemen, Superintendent of Police (SP) Auraiya -Charu Nigam formed eight special teams and started investigation.
During the investigation, CCTV footage of the toll plazas were procured. The help of informers was also taken to crack the case.
“Inspector Ajay Pal and sub-inspector Chintak
Kaushik were nabbed from Bhognipur in Kanpur Dehat and their four accomplices were arrested from Jalaun Road in Auraiya. The looted 50 kg of silver has been recovered from the house of SI Chintan Kaushik,” said SP Charu Nigam. Inspector Ajay Pal hails from Kasganj while SI Chintan Kaushik from Bulandshahr.

Sanjay Topi, a former employee of jeweler Soni, SP further said and added, “Sanjay, took help of his two friends Rafat and
Jamaluddin of Hamirpur. Jamaluddin further orchestrated this robbery with the help of Bhognipur Kotwali inspector Ajay Pal and SI Chintan Kaushik. Sanjay, Rafat, Jamaluddin and one Rakesh, who also assisted in crime have been arrested. Gabbu, a resident of Lalitpur and Tajuddin of Hamirpur, two other of their aides are absconding. The police have also recovered an SUV, used in the crime, besides two rifles and five cartridges of 315 bore from the possession of Rafat and Jamaluddin. The inspector, sub-inspector, besides their other counterpart head-constable Ramshankar have been suspended with immediate effect.
