stole the show in weight-lifting event when they cornered two golds on stake on the second day of the 51st inter-IIT

sports meet

held at IIT-Kanpur here on Wednesday.

Prakash Tiwari won first gold for host Kanpur when he lifted 203 kg weight in 69 kg category. Sawai Ram of IIT-Kharagpur and Abhishek Tyagi of IIT-Guwahati stood at the second and the third place respectively and won silver and bronze medals accordingly.

Prakash in snatch lifted 87 kg in the second round which was his best. Thereafter in clean and jerk, he lifted 116 kg and emerged as the winner. Sawai Ram lifted total 177 kg (snatch 78 + clean and jerk 99 kg). Abhishek Tyagi lifted total 168 kg. He had lifted 74 kg in snatch and 98 kg in clean and jerk. However Ritesh Giri of Kanpur had recorded the best lift in snatch and that was 90 kg.

Sreejith in 62 kg category got the top position for lifting total 189 kg weight. In snatch, he lifted 84 kg and in clean and jerk he lifted 105 kg in his first attempt. In the next two rounds, he tried for 110 kg but on both occasions he committed foul.

UDM Narayan of IIT-Kharagpur lifted total 183 kg and won the silver medal. He in snatch lifted 84 kg. In earlier two rounds he had lifted 78 and 82 kgs. Thereafter in clean and jerk he lifted 99 kg in his first attempt which proved his best. Tej Bahadur Barjeet of IIT-Kanpur stood at the third place with a total lift of 176 kg. He had lifted 75 kg in snatch and 101 kg in snatch and jerk.

Following are the results of other events:

Basketball: (Men) IIT-Roorkee beat Mandi by 52-22 and Bombay beat Gandhinagar by 63-17. Women–-BHU beat Kharagpur by 33-18, Roorkee bt Mandi 20-0, Madras bt Jodhpur 48-11, Delhi beat Kanpur 28-16.

Football: Hyderabad drew with Ropar (0-0) Gandhinagar bt BHU by 2-1.

Hockey: Guwahati drew 0-0 with Hyderabad.

Lawn Tennis: Men-Kharagpur bt Hyderabad by 2-0, Guwahati bt Ropar by 2-0, Women-—Madras bt Hyderabad 2-0, Bombay bt Roorkee 2-0.
