KANPUR: The Foundation Day of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) will be observed on November 2. During the ceremony, the prestigious Satyendra Kumar Dubey Memorial Award will be given away. This year the award would be given to Neha Verma, who is working as a Director in the Ministry of Steel.
The Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award is an award named after Satyendra Dubey and presented by the IIT-Kanpur. It is awarded annually to an IIT alumnus who displays the highest levels of professional integrity in upholding human values. The Memorial Award was instituted by IIT-Kanpur in 2005 in memory of Satyendra K Dubey. Dubey, a project engineer of the National Highway Authority of India who had exposed several cases of large-scale flouting of rules and corrupt practices in the construction project, was gunned down in the early hours of November 27, 2003 in front of the Circuit House in Gaya.
Apart from this, two former teachers Padmashree Professor HC Verma and Professor SC Srivastava and 15 alumni will also be felicitated on this day. Two alumni below the age of 40 years will be given the Young Alumnus Award, 11 alumni will be given the Distinguished Alumnus Award and two other alumni will be given the Distinguished Service Award.
According to the IIT administration, this year Assistant Professor of Biosystem Science and Engineering Center of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Mohit Kumar Jolly and Deepak Pathak, assistant professor at the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, will be honored with the Young Alumnus Award. Apart from this, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Professor Deepak Dhar, Professor in the Department of Computer Informatics and Engineering, University of Florida,. Sanjay Ranka, Professor of the Georgia Institute of Technology, College of Computing, USA, Vivek Sarkar, Iowa State University Prof. Ratnesh Kumar, Ranodeb Rai, CEO of RV Capital Management based in Singapore, Rajendra Bhattarai, President of Clean Water Strategy in Texas, Dr. Ruchir Puri, Chief Scientist at IBM Research in the US, Dr. Smita Agarwal, Vice President of Microsoft, Alok Bajpai, Co-Founder of the Exigo Group, MD of Raj Associate (based in New Jersey), Deepak Dev Raj, Dr. Anil Kumar Rajvanshi, Director, Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, will be given the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
