IIT-Kanpur staffer held after colleague alleges rape

KANPUR: IIT-Kanpur employee Shubham Malviya, accused of rape by a colleague, was arrested on Tuesday from Kalyanpur. He had gone into hiding after the survivor, an engineer from Arunachal Pradesh, filed an FIR on Jan 28 alleging that he coerced her into a physical relationship on the pretext of marriage, and had been sexually assaulting her for a year.

Police conducted raids at Shubham's flat, and also at his and his relatives' homes. Under pressure, his family contacted the DCP through a lawyer and shared his location. tnn
