When he did not return for long, the worried family members made a call on his mobile phone, but it was found to be switched off.
On Monday morning, when the family members and the villagers started searching for him, a group of locals informed them about the recovery of Shri Ram's body in a pool of blood on Bakoli-Gosra approach road. Immediately, they reached the spot and alerted the police. ACP Ghatampur Dinesh Kumar Shukla along with a dog squad, a forensic team and a police force rushed to the spot and started an investigation to unravel the murder mystery. A bag, a mobile phone and his bike were found lying near the dead body, police said and added, “There were deep wounds on his head which seemed to have been caused by an axe.”
Village head Saroj, the wife of the deceased, said that her husband had good political influence in the area. “Being a women's seat, he had made her contest the election and she won with a huge margin of votes,” she said. She however expressed the possibility of murder due to political enmity.
In-charge Bidhnu police station Pradyumna Singh said the body has been sent for the postmortem examination.
“A case has been registered under the relevant IPC sections on the complaint of the family members. Efforts are being made to arrest the killers,” Singh added.
