Husband of nagar palika chairperson held on rape charges
Kanpur: The Maharashtra police havhase arrested Sandeep Kumar Pandey, the husband of Gangaghat Nagar Palika chairperson Kaumudi Pandey in connection with the rape of a woman after raiding their Shuklaganj residence late on Thursday night.
In-charge Gangaghat Kotwali police station Chandrakant Singh said a report was lodged in Thane's Mira Bhayandar police station by a resident of Naya Nagar against the chairperson's husband Sandeep in a case of rape of a woman. Sub-inspector of Mira Bhayandar police station Govinda Kirodiwal reached Shuklaganj with a police team and arrested Sandeep and took him along with them to Thane.
According to the Mira Bhayandar police, Pandey was booked under sections 376, 377, 420, 406, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC following a complaint by a woman of Naya Nagar, said in-charge pf the Gangaghat police station.
“Sandeep Pandey was nabbed and brought to the Gangaghat Kotwali after raiding the office located at the Nehru Nagar turn on Lucknow Road. After completing all necessary formalities, the Gangaghat police handed Sandeep to the Maharashtra police.
Sub-inspector of Mira Bhayandar police station Govinda Kirodiwal said that an FIR had been lodged against Sandeep about two months ago. “Since then, the Maharashtra police were continuously looking for him. The survivor was also brought for identification of the accused,” he added.
