History-sheeter assaults city businessman

Kanpur: A businessman from Lal Bangla in the Chakeri area reported an incident of assault and extortion by a history-sheeter on Sunday. Complainant, Shashank Chaurasia, who resides in Tiwaripur, Jajmau and runs a watch shop in Lal Bangla, lodged a formal complaint at the Chakeri police station.Shashank said on January 1, while he was enjoying 'golgappas' with a friend on Subhash Road, a local history-sheeter accompanied by three aides approached them and demanded Rs 50,000 as protection money for allowing him to continue his business operations. Upon refusing their demands, the accused allegedly attacked him and his friend and forcibly took Rs 1,200 from him at gunpoint, Shashank alleged.Station officer Ashok Dubey confirmed receipt of the complaint and assured that appropriate action would be taken following a thorough investigation of the incident.
