Hindus, Jains celebrate new year

KANPUR:The 48 hours brought in festivities. With Hindu and Jain community celebrated the new years on Monday. The Islamic new year began on Tuesday.
The Hindu new year, Vikram Samvat 2070, fell on November 4. The same day, Jains celebrated their new year, Vir Samvat 2540.
Astrologically, this new year would see 'Panch Greh Yog' or the coming of five planets (Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu and Moon) in Libra.According to astrologers this co-incidence could bring shocking changes in politics as well as sensex.
The members of Jamiat Ulama observed the New Year of Muslims on Tuesday. They prayed for peace and tranquility in the world. The members remembered Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who made the supreme sacrifice in the battle of Karbala on the 10th day of Muharram known as Ashura.
