‘Hindi language should be seen as integral part of culture’
Kanpur: The department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University organised a two-day international seminar to mark 200 years of Hindi journalism at the Tatya Tope senate hall on Saturday.
The seminar is being organised in collaboration with the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Education, Govt of India. The event has drawn participation from academicians, researchers, students and journalists from across the country and abroad, with around 200 delegates attending the programme.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Rammohan Pathak, former vice chancellor of the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, said that the role of Hindi should not be seen merely as a medium of communication but as an integral part of culture, management and life values. Referring to texts like the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana, he highlighted their relevance in leadership and management while stressing the need to guide the youth.
Vice chancellor Vinay Kumar Pathak spoke about the emerging challenges in journalism and underscored the importance of developing indigenous language-learning models. He also emphasised that journalism students must learn to effectively use AI tools and expressed hope that the seminar would enable meaningful discussions on the history, current challenges and future prospects of Hindi journalism.
Keynote speaker and senior journalist Ashutosh Shukla traced the evolution of Hindi journalism, noting that the tradition began in 1826 with the publication of Udant Martand by Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla and continues to play a vital role in creating social awareness.
