KANPUR: A professor of Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) was arrested here on Thursday in the case of molestation of a student doing MBA from the institution.
The student has accused the professor, Vinod Yadav, of “mental harassment and bad touch by calling her in the cabin”.
Nawabganj police had registered a case against the accused professor and after summoning him for questioning at the police station arrested him on Thursday afternoon.
ACP Swaroop Nagar Vraj Narayan Singh said that on the complaint of the student, a report has been registered against the accused professor under sections of molestation and he has been arrested. “Further investigations are underway in this regard.”
MBA course started in the HBTU last year, said the police further and added, “The first year student hailing alleged that the professor of the department is constantly harassing her mentally. On remaining absent in the class, professor use abusive language.”
The girl student even alleged that many other girl students had even fainted on several occasions due to their mental torture by the professor. “The student has also accused two other professors of mental harassment,” the police said.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed on the institute campus when the office-bearers and activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad created a ruckus in HBTU and gheraoed the vice-chancellor.
They raised the demand to suspend the accused professor. Along with this, they also sought action against the associate of the accused professor.
