Hair chopping scare: Kanpur girl's braid cut, FIR lodged

KANPUR: In perhaps the first case of mysterious cutting of braid reported from a city, a class IX girl here found her hair cut when she woke up early on Saturday morning.Police have registered a case against unidentified people and were looking into the matter.
According to the girl's father, the incident took place when the children, including the girl, where asleep in the same room with their mother.The girl's family members said she was traumatised. Fear was palpable in the locality as people gathered to enquire about the incident.
After the girl's family in formed the police, a heavy force was rushed to Babupurwa and the house was cordoned off.
Forensic experts collec ted samples from the spot while police recorded statements of the victim and her family. The incident led to rumours in the city , with many people terming it as an act of witchcraft or black magic. Talking to TOI, the girl's father, Abrar, said: “I came to know about the incident when my daughter woke up around 3.30 am abruptly and shouted after seeing her hair cut. We were shocked and immediately dialled 100 for help. We have registered an FIR with the Babupurwa police against unidentified people in this regard.“
The girl did not speak much, but showed TOI her braid. I was fast asleep and don't know when exactly my braid was cut. I didn't feel anything, but woke up after hearing some commotion to see that my braid had been cut.“ The girl's mother and other close relatives and neighbours were seen pacifying her.
Babupurwa CO Ajit Kumar Rajat told TOI that it would be too early to comment on the incident. “We have roped in forensic experts, who have collected evidence. We have also lodged an FIR under Section 354 of IPC against unidentified people and deployed force in the area to give people a sense of security.“
He also appealed to the people not to pay any atten tion to rumours.
In another incident, a woman suffering from trauma after her braid was cut mysteriously in Hardoi was admitted to LLR hospital in the city on Saturday morning. Doctor S K Gautam said that the woman, a resident of Kutwapur village in Hardoi, was treated for trauma. She looked pale and weak. A CT scan was also conducted but noting abnormal was found. Her family took her away without getting her discharged from the hospital officially, he added.
Sambal father chops girl's hair, booked
BAREILLY: Sambhal police arrested two brothers on Friday for allegedly spreading a rumour that their niece's hair had been mysteriously chopped, whereas it was her father who had done it, in an alleged conspiracy by the family to get publicity.
The accused, identified as Nand Kishor and Tikam, were arrested from Jairoi Hayatnagar village, under the jurisdiction of Bahjoi police station. According to the police both brothers spread rumours that the braid of an 11-year-old girl had been mysteriously chopped off. Investigations revealed that her father was responsible for it. The father too has been booked and is at large.
