Govt officials, netas, students take part in mega yoga event

Kanpur: Over two thousand people, including government officials, politicians and students took part in the mega yoga event organized to celebrate International Yoga Day at the Green Park stadium on Wednesday.Speaker of UP Assembly Satish Mahana was the chief guest while mayor Pramila Pandey the special guest. Divisional commissioner Lokesh M, Alok Singh, additional director-general of police, DM Vishak G Iyer and Sudhir Kumar, chief development officer, lit the lamp and inaugurated the yoga function.Pradeep Kumar Pathak, an international yoga teacher of Art of Living and his team demonstrated the yoga exercises and ‘dhyan’. Though the rain god interrupted the programme by a short spell of light drizzle the performers stayed in the open ground and performed yoga exercises with full zeal.Speaker of UP Assembly Satish Mahana in his address said sanitation and yoga are essential factors for a healthy person, and that was why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasized on those two factors. “It was the PM’s initiative to observe June 21 as International Yoga Day which is being observed today all over the world”, he added.Divisional commissioner M Lokesh asked the people to include yoga in their daily routine to stay healthy. DM Vishak G Iyer said including yoga exercises in daily routine will give a good message to the people. The yoga programmes were also organized at various parks, localities, gram panchayats and development blocks of the district.
