KANPUR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday nabbed two smugglers from Pushpak Express heading towards Lucknow and recovered huge quantity of sandalwood from their possession.
According to inspector, GRP, Tripurari Pandey, 85 kg of sandalwood was recovered from their possession. He said that the wood was being transported from the jungles of Madhya Pradesh.
In Kannauj, the same sandalwood is used to prepare perfume.
Pandey further said a case has been registered against the arrested miscreants and they have been sent to jail. They have been identified as Mohd Nazim and Mohd Ibrahim, both brothers and residents of Kannauj.
According to the GRP official, acting on a tip-off a raid was conducted in Pushpak Express. As soon as the train halted at platform number eight of Kanpur Central railway station, the police frisked the two suspects and recovered 85 kgs of Sandalwood from them. The sandalwood was being carried in four bags.
