Girl shot at in full public view by jilted lover

A jilted youth shot at a girl in broad daylight in Bara Sagwar police area of Unnao on Tuesday.The girl suffered serious bullet wounds and is battling for life at the ICU of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur.

KANPUR: A jilted youth shot at a girl in broad daylight in BaraSagwar police area of Unnao on Tuesday. The girl suffered serious bullet wounds and is battling for life at the ICU of LalaLajpatRai Hospital in Kanpur. According to reports, Pramod Kumar Yadav worked as a teacher in a public school in Devpur village.
A resident of Mansha Kheda in Unnao, Pramod on Tuesday intercepted 18-year-old daughter of Dhunari Yadav of Karmi village, when she was on her way to school.

When the girl refused, angry Pramod pulled out a firearm and shot at the her from point-blank. As the profusely bleeding girl collapsed, locals rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion. Realising the incident, they chased and nabbed Pramod.
After a severe thrashing, they handed him over to Bara Sagwar police for investigation. The angry locals further vented their ire by setting afire Pramod's two-wheeler.
According to police, Pramod was irked over Sarika's persistent refusal to accept his proposal of friendship. The girl sustained bullet injuries in her stomach and was initially rushed to the district hospital from where she was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur. After being operated upon, the girl was recuperating from her injury in the ICU.
The girl is a student of class XII in Gangotri Adarsh Inter College in Mahramau area. She had cleared high school from Sarla Devi Awasthi Adarsh Memorial Inter College, where Pramod worked as a teacher.

"Pramod wanted the girl to accept his friendship. But she refused. He started stalking her and followed her to the college daily," said the officer. On Tuesday morning, the girl left for college on a bicycle and Pramod started following her. "She had barely reached Baidara village when Pramod waylaid her. He wanted her to sit on his motorcycle but he girl refused.
As locals watched the duo sparring, Pramod whipped out a firearm and shot at her. The bullet pierced her stomach and she slumped on the ground," said Bara Sagwar station officer Krishna Lal Patel.
Locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the girl but Pramod opened indiscriminate fire. As locals looked for cover, Pramod esacped from the scene. However, the locals managed to nab Pramod after a chase. They thrashed him and set his motorcyle on fire , he added.
The victim's parents filed a complaint against Pramod with the Bara Sagwar police station.
"He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to murder), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, punishment of criminal intimidation and also under the Indian Arms Act," said Superintendent of Police Sonia Singh.
