Four new railway bridges to be constructed in city

Kanpur: The construction of four new railway overbridges was approved to alleviate daily traffic congestion in the city.State Bridge Corporation started preparations by requesting technical designs and cost reports from the railways after the district magistrate instructed it to obtain these to move the process forward. The projects were approved on proposals from metropolitan MP Ramesh Awasthi and MLAs Surendra Maithani and Mahesh Trivedi.
The four overbridges will be built at TatMill Chauraha to Ghantaghar Road, parallel to the existing bridge near Panki Dham railway station, from Transport Nagar Tiraha Juhi Khalwa to Afeem Kothi, and from Mariampur Chauraha to Fazalganj via Chawla Market leading to Sachan Chauraha.According to details sent to the railway by the deputy project manager of Setu Nigam, the Tat Mill-Ghantaghar bridge will be 820 metres long and will cost Rs 19,380 lakh. The Panki Dham bridge will span 678.78 metres at a cost of Rs 16,445.27 lakh, the Juhi Khalwa bridge 765 metres at a cost of Rs 22,595 lakh, and the Mariampur–Sachan Chauraha bridge 4,200 metres at Rs 94,550 lakh.Bridge Corporation's chief project manager, Vijay Kumar Sen, stated that all proposals have been sent to the government which has instructed the railways to provide the cost and design report for its portion of the construction. Once the railway's report is received, these bridges will receive final administrative approval.
