KANPUR: Four swindlers were arrested for tricking people into buying houses at low rates.
The arrested persons were identified as Punit alias Amit Srivastava of Rajiv Nagar, Sunil alias Deepesh and Shyamu alias Santosh Shukla, both residents of Gujaini and Pradeep Verma of Vinayakpur.
"With the arrest of four, we have busted a gang involved in cheating Awdhesh Kumar Dikshit of Kalyanpur of Rs 5.20 lakh.
They had sold him a house in Shastri Nagar which actually belonged to Deepesh Kumar Trivedi. These men used to float advertisement in newspapers and target the middle class people and cheated them of their hard earned money," SP (rural) Arun Kumar Pandey said.
Kalyanpur police received a complaint from Awdhesh Kumar Dikshit, working with a Tranpsort firm against one of the accused identified as Santosh, an employee of State Bank of India's Rawatpur branch.
On receipt of the complaint, a team was constituted. The mobile phones were put under surveillance.
The team first apprehended Punit alias Amit Srivastava, a resident of Rajiv Nagar.
During interrogation, Punit said that he and his friends had hatched out a plan. They first stole the registry papers of a bank employee Deepesh Trivedi's house from the bank from where the latter had availed home loan.
Later, they managed to prepare duplicate papers of the house and sold it to Awdhesh Kumar Dikshit of Kalyanpur for 5.20 lakh.
