Four get life term for 2011 murder charge

KANPUR: Additional district and sessions judge (XXII) Mohd Shafeeq on Monday sentenced four accused to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on each for committing murder. The convicts are

Raikwar, Ramesh, Gullan alias Gaurav, and Dheeru Nai.

According to additional district government counsel (ADGC) Sanjay Jha, one Dheeraj Gupta of Parmat locality had lodged a report in which he stated that on October 28, 2011, at about 8.30 pm, Kannauj Raikwar went to his brother Neeraj’s shop and asked for a cigarette but did not pay. When Neeraj asked for money, Kannauj first abused him and then went to his house but after few minutes returned with Ramesh Verma Chhotu alias Ankit, Badkoo alias Ankush, Gullan, Gaurav Goel and Dheeru, who not only abused Neeraj but also attacked him.

The complainant and his elder brother tried to pacify them but Ramesh asked his friends to kill Neeraj as he had dared to demand money for the cigarette.

“Badakoo and Chhotu caught Neeraj and Gullan whipped out a knife and inflicted several blows on him while others kicked him. After hearing the noise, the locals reached the spot after which all the accused ran away. Neeraj was rushed to the UHM hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, the ADGC said.

On point of the sentence, the defence counsels of all the accused requested the court to take a lenient view but the court. On the other hand, the prosecution argued that since the accused had killed Neeraj just to create terror in the locality, therefore, they should be given an exemplary punishment.

The court, after going through evidence on the record, held all the accused guilty and sentenced them according.
