Female kangaroo dies in zoo after battling infection for 2 months
Kanpur: A female kangaroo died at the zoo on Wednesday morning after undergoing treatment for two months for a severe infection in her teeth and gums.
According to zoo director, Kanhaiya Patel, the infection had spread to the gums and jaw, leaving her unable to eat properly.
The zoo’s wildlife veterinarians continuously treated her, but the medicines failed to stop the infection, and it had reached the brain.
A postmortem conducted on Wednesday confirmed a severe infection. Samples of the body were being sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly for examination.
Zoo ranger, Naved Ikram and his team brought two pairs of kangaroos from Gujarat in January 2025. Of these, one pair was white and the other was brown.
Last year, the brown kangaroo pair gave birth to an offspring, after which their number increased to three.
