Fabricated entries in patient register; CMO asked for report

Kanpur: Kanpur Nagar district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh conducted an impromptu inspection of Primary Health Centre KPL on Sunday and discovered that medical officer Dr Deepti Gupta had fabricated entries in the patient register.The DM arrived at PHC at 10.45 a.m. and noted the presence of Dr Deepti Gupta and nodal officer R N Singh. The OPD register contained names and mobile numbers of 24 patients, but bore the date February 17 instead of February 16.The DM verified one mobile number and found it non-operational. Upon dialling a second number, one Sayeed from Patkapur answered, confirming he had not visited the PHC that day. Dr Gupta subsequently admitted that no patients had visited and all entries were fabricated.Speaking to journalists, the DM voiced concerns regarding potential misappropriation of medicines typically dispensed to patients at PHC. The doctor's conduct violated healthcare service protocols, with significant discrepancies discovered in official documentation.The CMO has been instructed to audit the PHC medicine stock register. R N Singh was directed to secure all pertinent documents for investigation before recommending suspension or departmental action against the Medical Officer. Additionally, the DM instructed the CMO to submit a comprehensive report after establishing accountability of the medical officer, nodal officer and other PHC staff where substantial irregularities were identified.
