Excellence honoured at CSJMU convocation

Both the administration and students of Chatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University should take up the challenge of improving research work and making it world-class, said the chancellor of the varsity and UP governor BL Joshi during the 27th convocation ceremony of CSJMU on Saturday.

KANPUR: Both the administration and students of ChatrapatiShahujiMaharaj University should take up the challenge of improving research work and making it world-class, said the chancellor of the varsity and UP governor BL Joshi during the 27th convocation ceremony of CSJMU on Saturday. Joshi was addressing the students, their parents and faculty members of the university who had assembled for the ceremony in the university auditorium.

Also present on the dais were Justice Dr Balbir Singh Chauhan, Judge, Supreme Court of India who was the chief guest for the occasion, Prof Ashok Kumar, vice chancellor, CSJMU, and SW Hussain, the registrar of the university.
While Shailja Mishra of MA Music course of AND College was awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal, Chancellor's Silver Medal was bestowed upon Sitapur Sikshan Sansthan's Divyanshikha Bajpai of BCA course by Joshi and Chauhan. The two meritorious students received a huge round of applause from the audience. Shailja, who was named the best student in all faculties of the university bagged a total of five medals. Divyanshikha Bajpai was named the best girl student of the university.
Earlier, the annual report of the university was read by Prof Ashok Kumar which marked the beginning of the convocation ceremony. This was followed by distribution of the medals to the meritorious students. The first one to collect the medal was Dr Anand Behari Lal Lakhtakiya who was the only recipient of the DLitt degree. Thereafter, 386 students were awarded PHd degrees. The highest number of PHd degrees were awarded to students of the Arts stream followed by the science stream.
The Chancellor's Bronze Medal was awarded to BA students Nidhi Tiwari of Kanpur Vidya Mandir, Parul of NAKP College, Farrukhabad, Akansha of SMPS Mahavidyalaya of Kannauj, Shivangi Mohan of AND College, Swati Gupta of Juhari Devi Girls College and Ekta Singh of PPN College; BSc students Shubhangi Agnihotri of DG College and Priyanka Dixit of PD Mahila Degree College, Farrukhabad; Bsc Agriculture students Vijay Kumar Pandey and Ashish Kumar Verma; BCom Deepal Jeet Kaur Bhatia of Guru Nanak Girls Degree College and Shivani Saigal of YD College, Lakhimpur Kheri; LLb students Shweta Shukla and Neha Banaudhia of Bhramananda Degree college; BEd students Shaina Begum of Ramjanki Mahavidyalaya and Jaya Singh of SJ Mahavidyalaya. Neha Gurvani, Akansha Singh, Sachin Gulati, Shailja Mishra, Supriya Shukla, Manish Chandra Yadav, Sharda Prasad Mishra and Poonam Devi from CSJM University were also given the Chancellor's Bronze Medal. These students have topped in their respective streams.
In the second half of the programme, 11 meritorious students were given Vice-chancellor's Gold Medal. These included Shailja Mishra, Shubhangi Mishra, Deepaljeet Kaur Bhatia, Vijay Kumar Pandey, Shweta Shukla, Poonam Devi, Neha Gurvani, Akansha Singh, Lini Srivastava, Sachin Gulati and Garima Mishra.
Later, addressing the students, Joshi said that it was indeed a moment of happiness to know that the university is growing and that the university was the first to declare early results. He appreciated the university's initiative of posting 34,000 answer books online on its website. He advised the authorities of CSJMU to open a yoga centre in the physical centre on the varsity campus. The conclusion of the programme was marked by the singing of the national anthem.
