Etawah safari opts for measures to save animals from biting cold
Kanpur: As the biting cold sweeps the region, the administration of Etawah Safari Park has installed electric heaters and adopted other natural measures in the animal enclosures. In-charge director and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Social Forestry Division, Atulkant Shukla said that the animals are being constantly monitored 24 hours through CCTV.“Heaters have been installed in all the enclosures including Asiatic Lions”, he said. Temperature instruments have also been installed in all the enclosures. In enclosures, we have taken full care that the electric gadgets are installed in such a way that the animals cannot come in contact with them. Polythene mats have also been installed on the windows and doors of the animal enclosures,” he said. The safari administration has also increased the diet of the animals to help them cope with the ongoing cold weather.“The diets of all animals have been increased so that their energy levels can withstand the harsh cold,” he added. To keep warm, hay grass, blankets have also been placed in the enclosures of all the carnivores, besides in the antelope section which houses spotted deer, chinkara and black buck. The bears have also been kept in a closed enclosure. Dry grass has been kept at the place where the bear and the animals of the antelope family sit. Etawah Safari Park, is spread in 350 hectare area of Fisher Forest, a part of Social Forestry Division. The only safari of the state, its entire area is secured by a 7800 mtr longbuffer boundary wall and is filled with a variety of flora and fauna.The park also caters to about 100 species of birds and reptiles respectively. The Lion Breeding Centre & multiple safari parks is located in the historical Fisher Forests located on the Etawah-Gwalior road. The area contains one of the oldest plantations in the state.
