Dug-up roads turn into death trap in monsoon
KANPUR: The district administration seems to have taken no lesson from past years and not prepared to tackle monsoon. Most of the roads turn muddy or slushy during heavy rain.
The Parade and Chunniganj roads turned into a nightmare following light showers on Friday evening.
Heaps of silt collected on road sides could be seen in most of the localities.

The roads dug up by Jal Nigam for laying of water pipelines have not been repaired by PWD.
These roads are covered with mud that turn slippery and marshy during rain.
The city witnesses accidents during monsoon every year due to broken roads.
Sapan Jain, a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar, said motorcyclists usually skid on the muddy stretch connecting Chunniganj and Mall Road.
"Jal Nigam is doing the work of laying of water pipeline from past several years. The officials should have taken cognisance of the monsoon and restored the roads properly immediately," he said.
A shop owner at Naveen Market said, "The muddy and marshy roads are casing lot of trouble to us. I come from
Swaroop Nagar to Naveen Market. Commuting by two-wheeler is risky so I prefer to commute by four-wheeler, which is an expensive affair. The officials should look into the matter soon."
The dug-up roads are to be re-constructed by Public Works Department. However, the work has not been initiated yet. PWD official K C Verma said, "Jal Nigam is still in the process of laying water pipeline in Chunniganj."
"Once the work is complete we will start building the road connecting Chunniganj with Parade. We cannot construct road during rainfall. If the weather permits, we will finish road construction by July 15."
