DM stresses spl drives to check vector-borne diseases

Kanpur: District magistrate Kanpur Nagar, Vishak G Iyer, on Thursday directed Nagar Swasthya Adhikari to identify the area where patients of infectious diseases were found and conduct fogging and special cleaning campaigns there. Besides, he also directed that special cleaning should be ensured by setting rosters in slums also.
The district magistrate was conducting a meeting about prevention of dengue and other infectious diseases in the district. The officials had apprised him that for the control of vector-borne diseases, entomological survey, source reduction, larvicidal spraying and public awareness programs were being conducted by the district health department, municipal corporation and panchayati raj department at various areas. All the departments were making an appeal to the community to remove the water collected from all the places where larvae grow and to prevent communicable diseases.
In a direction to the district malaria officer, he asked him to take action in the areas where infectious diseases are prevalent. In those areas where more positive cases are being found, source reduction should be done along with line listing of symptomatic people and testing should be done. The chief medical officer was asked to deploy additional medical officers for monitoring the areas with high number of positive cases and to conduct entomological survey, source reduction, larvicidal spraying, fogging and cleanliness in these areas with the help of municipal corporation and medical department officials.
In another direction, he asked Nagar Swasthya Adhikari and district malaria officer to ensure that necessary action should be taken by jointly organizing special campaigns for the prevention of dengue and other infectious diseases in the areas which had emerged as hotspots of infectious diseases in the past years.
The CMO was instructed to ensure preparations to increase the availability of beds if the occupancy is above 60 percent in relation to the beds available in dengue wards established in various government and private hospitals of the district. The CMO should ensure that blood availability of each group is maintained in the blood banks of the district, he said. tnn

Seth highlighted issues such as unattended garbage and potholes that lead to waterlogging, which are perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He suggested spraying bleaching powder and conducting fogging to address these problems. Regular cleaning of public toilets is also necessary.

Chief secy reviews monsoon disease prevention steps

The chief secretary of Chennai has held a meeting to discuss measures to prevent dengue and other diseases during the upcoming monsoon season. The government is increasing efforts in mosquito control, organizing awareness and fever camps, and removing objects that could collect rainwater and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. This comes after the death of a four-year-old child from dengue in the city.
