Divya case: Hearing in accused bail plea adjourned

Hearing on the second bail application of accused Peeyush Kumar Verma in the much publicized Divya murder case was adjourned on Monday after a brief hearing.

KANPUR: Hearing on the second bail application of accused Peeyush Kumar Verma in the much publicized Divya murder case was adjourned on Monday after a brief hearing.
Additional district and sessions judge Vijay Laxmi heard the arguments of prosecution and defence counsels and accepted the latter's plea for written arguments. Earlier, the two counsels argued on charges and FIR, thereafter the defence counsel pleaded for written arguments.

The judge fixed June 7 as the next date for hearing.
Divya alias Anushka's case had shocked the city on September 27, 2010. Nine-year-old Divya, a student of Bharti Gyan Sthali School in Ganesh Nagar was subjected to inhuman behaviour on that day in the school. She later succumbed to internal injuries. The police had registered a report on September 27 and arrested Munna on October 6, 2010 and claimed to solve the case. Munna was later proved innocent and discharged by the court.
Earlier, the investigation from September 27 to October 24, 2010 was done by the civil police. Thereafter the investigation was carried out by the CB-CID. After investigations, CB-CID arrested Peeyush Kumar Verma, Mukesh Verma, Chandrapal Verma and Santosh Kumar Mishra and charged them under Section 302/3077/376/511 IPC.
This was Peeyush's second bail application. The first one was dismissed when his pairokar refused to argue the case.
Convicted for rape: Additional district and sessions judge Neerja Singh, on Monday, convicted Virendra Kumar for committing a rape and unintentional murder and punished him with ten years of rigorous imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
Virendra, a resident of Rustampur village in Sachendi raped a girl in February 2009. Angry over her physical exploitation and inaction of police, she committed suicide on February 9 by setting herself on fire.
In her dying statement, she had charged Virendra of physically exploiting her.
