KANPUR: Devotees worshipped the goddess of 'Shakti and Siddhi' at Lalita Devi Temple, Massacre Ghat, on Friday. Importantly, those who believe in gaining spiritual powers gather here during Navaratra to perform 'Hath Yog Sadhna'.
This is probably the only temple of Maa Lalita across the state and was formerly known as Raj Rajeshwari Lalitamba Temple.
Another religious significance of this place is that it has three temples for goddesses Lalita Devi, Mata Pitambara and Bagla Mukhi.
It is believed that when goddess Parvati set herself afire and lord Shankar was taking her back to Kailash, the body parts of the goddess fell at several spots, which are now considered as 'Siddha Pith' of the goddess. Lalita Devi Temple is one of these 'Siddha Pith', where, legend says, the left ear of goddess Parvati had fallen. Several years laters, devotees constructed a temple here.
''The left ear of Parvati Maa fell in between the river Ganga and Yamuna. It is while digging the ground for the work of renovation a 'Shree Yantra' was found buried beneath the site. After this, it was turned into a temple of 'Lalita Mata' who is the goddess of 'Yog and Sadhana','' said Sheetla Nand Nath Ji Shastri, caretaker of the temple.
''This is a place where everyone's wishes get fulfilled without there being any need to promise any offerings in return,'' said Surendra Singh, a regular visitor at Lalita Devi Temple.
