2 drug peddlers arrested in encounter, ganja recovered

Kanpur: Two drug-peddlers were injured and arrested in a gunfire following an encounter in the Maharajpur police station area of the district late on Tuesday night. According to the police, ten kilograms of ‘ganja' have been recovered from these criminals. This encounter took place late at night in the Maharajpur area.Deputy commissioner of Police (east) Shrawan Kumar Singh informed that the police received a tip-off that criminals on a scooter were transporting narcotics via the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway. When the vigilant police team attempted to stop them, they fired at the police, and in the retaliatory firing, two criminals were injured.DCP said, "For the past few days, the police had been receiving continuous information that some individuals were involved in drug trafficking. On Tuesday evening, when information was received regarding this matter, the police laid a trap and tried to nab the criminals. In response, the criminals fired at the police. The police retaliated with gunfire, injuring two suspects who have been admitted to the hospital."The officer further said that the two have been identified as Neeraj and Manish, residents of Narwal Para village. He added that a reward of Rs 25000 has been given to the police team.
