A metropolitan magistrate court of Kanpur Nagar detained a sub-inspector for four hours on Wednesday after he submitted papers seeking police custody of an accused without senior officials' recommendations.

KANPUR: A metropolitan magistrate court of Kanpur Nagar detained a sub-inspector for four hours on Wednesday after he submitted papers seeking police custody of an accused without senior officials' recommendations. He was released after Beconganj station in-charge and district government counsel Santosh Kumar Yadav pleaded in his favour.
According to reports, Beconganj police station in-charge Hafizur Rehman had instructed SI RK Singh to seek police custody of Usman, who was arrested under the NDPS Act a few days ago.

However as Rehman and Circle Officer concerned were busy in Muharram security arrangements, they could not recommend the remand papers.
Singh, who came out of court compound in the evening, stated that he had submitted the custody remand paper around 1 pm before the court. The presiding judge after going through the written submission asked him to sit down near court pairokar and call senior police officials in the court.
Meanwhile, as the SI left the court to answer nature's call, a few raises an alarm stating that he was trying to escape. He was nabbed by court staff and others and brought back to the court.
Thereafter, station in-charge and government counsel reached the court and submitted that he be allowed to leave the court. Around 4.45 pm court allowed him to go back.
District Government counsel Santosh Yadav stated that the SI had submitted papers for police custody remand without the signatures of the circle officer which was a mistake. The presiding judge caught this error and asked him to summon senior police officials to clear the doubts.
Another SI had informed him about the incident and sought his help. Yadav apprised that he reached the court immediately. Thereafter on his submission court allowed the sub-inspector to go back and returned the paper with instruction to complete the formality.
