Couple run over by train

Kanpur:A middle-aged couple was run over by a speeding train at Dhaursalar railway station in Bilhaur area of the district on Sunday. Police said that it is not yet known whether it was an accident or both of them committed suicide.The police identified the deceased as Santosh Gupta, (50) and Nirmala Gupta (48), of Hitkari nagar, Kakadeo. On the information of the locals, the police reached the spot and sent the bodies of the couple for post-mortem.According to eyewitnesses, a man and a woman were standing at the Dhaursalar railway station on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, seeing a fast approaching express train heading towards Kanpur, the woman jumped on the track. The person standing by her side tried to pull her. But, he too lost balance and fell on the tracks along with the woman. Subsequently, both were run over by the train. In the accident, the mutilated parts of their bodies were scattered up to 50 meters.On the information, the police reached the spot and started the investigation.Inspector Surendra Singh, said, “It is yet to be ascertain that whether it was an accident or suicide. We have apprised the family members of the deceased on the basis of details procured from their mobile phones,” he said further.
