KANPUR:The internal bickering among Congress workers spilled onto the roads when supporters of two Congress leaders clashed in the Lal Bangla area under the Chakeri police station on Saturday.
SO (Chakeri) Satish Gautam informed that Congress legislator from Govind Nagar Ajay Kapoor, along with his supporters, was on his way to one Pradeep Saraswat`s residence, where he had been invited as a guest.
His supporters were shouting slogans in favour of Ajay Kapoor. However, another Congress worker, Kailash Pal, an ex-corporator and his men started raising an anti-Ajay Kapoor slogan. Pal has his shop in the area. His interference led to a strong reaction from legislator and his supporters.
Initially, both parties entered into altercation which further led to brick-batting from both sides and the two groups finally clashed in which a sweet shop, a jewellery shop and vehicles were damaged. Members from both sides received minor injuries, the officer informed.
The incident of clash spread like wild fire in the area and supporters of Kailash Pal, Gyanesh Mishra, Faraz Ansari and many others gathered at the site. Meanwhile, locals, who were in support of Kailash Pal, also joined the fight and entered into brick-batting against Ajay Kapoor and his supporters, who were then forced to leave the place. Arrival of the police controlled the agitated locals.
Both parties were brought to the Chakeri police station where they again tried to clash, but were repressed through a mild use of force. Pradeep Sarsawat has lodged a complaint against Pramod Jaiswal, brother of Sriprakash Jaiswal, Congress candidate from Kanpur Lok Sabha seat, for his involvement in the clash. Similarly, Pradeep Saraswat, supporter of Ajay Kapoor has also lodged a complaint against Kailash Pal.
