City student, 17, died of drowning, say cops

Kanpur: Drowning was the cause of death of the high school student of the city whose body was recovered from the Rind river in Kakarmau village of Shivli in Kanpur Dehat on Saturday. This was confirmed in the post mortem on Sunday. “No injury marks were found on the body, but the viscera has been preserved,” said the police. The family members who were at the mortuary, however, accused Kalyanpur and Shivli police of negligence.Shivnarayan Shukla, resident of Saheb Nagar in Kalyanpur, is a private sector employee. His younger son Hrithik Shukla (17) was studying at a local college in Kalyanpur. Hrithik left home for a morning walk on April 18 and went missing thereafter. The family members filed a kidnapping report accusing three friends of Hrithik from the Kalyanpur area.On Saturday, Hrithik’s body was found floating in the Rind river and police sent the body for postmortem.Chief medical officer Dr A K Singh constituted a panel comprising Dr Ankit Shukla, Dr Shivam Tiwari and Dr Prateek Yadav to conduct the postmortem, which was videographed. According to sources, Hrithik died due to drowning in water four to five days ago.ACP Kalyanpur V K Pandey said the post-mortem report stated the victim drowned and died. “The viscera of the boy has been preserved. Further action will be based on evidence and other necessary findings,” said the ACP, adding, “Negligence of some policemen has also come to the fore, action will be taken against them after inquiry.” tnn
