City shuttlers shine in championship

Kanpur: City shuttlers dominated the Yonex Sunrise Vijay Sharma Memorial UP State Veteran Badminton championship, which concluded at Agra on Jan 12. City's Shubham Chaddha clinched the 40+ singles title defeating Amit Upadhyaya 21-18, 21-12. In mixed doubles, Shubham & Madhumita Mishra received a walkover from Amit Upadhyaya & Ruchi Chaudhary. The pair of Guru Charan Singh & Pankaj Gupta vanquished R N Sarkar & Sudhir Kr Chaurasia 21-12, 21-17 in the 60+ group. In mixed doubles, Guru Charan Singh & Manta Rani secured the runner-up position. Anil Kumar Srivastava claimed the 50+ singles title defeating Sunit Dutta Tyagi 21-5, 21-16. Kanpur pair of Atul Gupta & Sushma Kumar triumphed over Anil Kumar Singh & Anu 21-17, 21-13 to secure the mixed doubles title. All winners will participate in national badminton championship scheduled in Goa in March 2025. tnn
