Kanpur: Prashant Pandey brought distinction for Kanpur on Monday when he clinched the title in the unrated players category at the second Brain Master National Open Rapid Chess Championship 2025 held in Datia, Madhya Pradesh. 426 chess players from across country participated in this prestigious event, which offered prize money of Rs 11,11,111. Prashant secured a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Under-9 chess: Mayra Gupta and Abhishek Raj Chaudhary claimed the girls' and boys' under-9 titles respectively in the district level selection championship held at JMD School on Monday. Daksh Surana of Dr Virendra Swarup H-2 block Kidwai Nagar secured the under-11 open category title. The championship saw 52 players competing. The top three players in each group will represent the district team in the state-level championship scheduled at Sitapur from April 5 to April 9.
Results: Under-9 Girls: 1. Mayra Gupta (Sheiling House 5.5 pts), 2. Avya Bhartia (GD Goenka 5.5 pts), 3. Drisha Agarwal (Shieling House 3 pts), Reserve -Hridaya Singh (Shri Ram Education Centre).
