Tania Verma

of Kanpur stood at the 28th place in the 35 MPL National Junior chess championship which concluded at RPS International School in Gurugram on Sunday.
The championship will be remembered for upsets. Top seed GM Iniyan P could not play at par with his ranking, and slipped to the 12th place at the end. Similarly, second seed GM Arjun Kalyan too failed to capitalize the occasion and he finished at the 7th place.
International Master Neelesh Shah of West Bengal won the championship while his state mate

Utsav Chatterjee

got the second place after the 9th and final round of the championship. According to

, secretary, Kanpur Chess Association, four boys and 4 girls represented the UP team in this championship, and

Tanya Verma

’s performance was the best among them. She won 4 games and shared points in 3 games and lost two games and collected 5.5 points. Another Kanpur boy, Avivar Nigam won 4 games but lost in the remaining five and stood at 128th place.
