City athletes shine in state powerlifting championship

Kanpur: Tapasya Gautam and Amit Bajpai of Kanpur have been adjudged as strong women (master) and strong men (master) in state level sub-junior/junior/senior/master powerlifting championship (men & women) concluded at KD Singh Babu Stadium Lucknow on Monday last. According to Saurabh Gaur, secretary Kanpur Weight Lifting Association, Kanpur team secured third place in men & women overall championship. Kanpur team garnered 11 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. The medal winners were – Rishi Yadav, Manoj Kumar, Amit Bajpai, Ravi Gupta, Manoj Saini, Shivani Singh, Vanya Chaturvedi, Devanjana Mishra, Tapasya Gautam, Simaran Kuntiya (all gold), Rishi Yadav, Amit Sharma, Samridhi Singh (all silver), Aditya Singh, Shivani Singh, Minakshi Mishra.
Warning to Cricketers – Kanpur Cricket Association has cautioned its registered players against participating in any unaffiliated tournament. KCA has not recognised cricket championship organised by Sports Club Bilhour; hence, players should not participate in that event.
Kaishal Kumar Singh, secretary KCA, in a release cautioned the players and stated that any participant, whether cricketer, scorer, or umpire, would face disciplinary action by the KCA if found participating in that event.
Football – Local footballer Tejas Jeet has been selected in the UP State sub-junior boys football team which will participate in national championship scheduled in Bangalore.
The team was selected after a camp held in Agra.
