Security has been beefed up in the city in wake of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. On Friday, the Government Railway Police undertook extensive checking at Kanpur Central.

KANPUR: Security has been beefed up in the city in wake of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. On Friday, the Government Railway Police undertook extensive checking at Kanpur Central.
The cops used hand held metal detectors to check the entire area of the railway station.
Every nook and corner of the station, including passenger waiting halls, parcel house, platforms, parking areas too were checked.

The luggage of passengers were also not spared.
The drive was carried out to instill confidence among passengers and review security arrangements, said a senior GRP official while talking to TOI.
Even main trains arriving at the station were also checked. Even the dog squad was roped in for for the checking drive.
The senior RPF and GRP officials said that station premises would be checked daily and tight security would remain in place. They also sought co-operation from passengers for checking of luggage.
