Centenary celebration of CPI held in city

Kanpur: Centenary celebration of the Communist Party of India were held at Comrade Ajay Ghosh Auditorium. Addressing the gathering, party general secretary Comrade D Raja acknowledged the party's 100-year journey since its establishment in Kanpur. He highlighted the party's dual origins in the international working-class movement and India's independence struggle.
"Throughout its century-long existence, the party has fought for national independence whilst consistently opposing capitalist state power to protect the interests of oppressed populations, with socialism and communism as its ultimate objectives," he said.
Raja criticised the BJP govt's decade-long governance, citing their economic, political, communal, and anti-constitutional policies. He stated, "The country faces rampant inflation and unemployment, whilst the BJP's double-engine govt attempts to divert attention through communal politics at both national and state levels.
National secretary Amarjeet Kaur spoke about the party's contributions to workers' rights. Dr Girish, National Secretary, detailed the CPI's historical demands, including land redistribution, nationalisation of foreign capital, universal adult suffrage, resource nationalisation, eight-hour workdays, demonstration rights, women's equality, and social justice for untouchables. tnn
