BJP Mahila Morcha leader found dead near liquor vend

Kanpur: Body of a local BJP Mahila Morcha leader was recovered from near a liquor vend in Phaphoond police area of Auraiyya district on late Saturday night.

Police recovered the body from a eucalyptus orchard close to a liquor vend in Sallahpur village during late Saturday night hours, said inspector Akhilesh Jaiswal. However, a 16-year-old youth, who accompanied her, remained untraceable, Jaiswal added.

“Investigation at the crime scene and prima facie evidence indicating that she might have been strangulated to death. Whether she was subjected to sexual exploitation or not would be clear only after getting the autopsy report,” the inspector said. “On the basis of the findings and recoveries during the preliminary investigation, the police have registered a case in this connection and started a search to locate the whereabouts of the teenage youth who had accompanied the BJP leader”, he added.

The incident came to light when some locals spotted the dead body lying near a liquor vend and alerted the police, he further said.

The victim went missing on Saturday evening, and her father filed a missing person’s report with Phaphoond police station. She along with a local teenage boy had left the house at around 6 pm on a two-wheeler saying that she was going to her sister-in-law’s house in the neighbouring village.
