Kanpur: Four convicts came out from the district jail on Friday after Zila Apradh Nirodhak Samiti paid the fines imposed by the courts.
The four convicts are Anand Raidas (Kalyanpur police station), Arshad (Chakeri police station), Rajeev Ranjan (GRP police station) and Akash Verma (Jajmau police station). The total fine amount pending against them was Rs 4,650.
A delegation, led by Sunil Kumar Gupta, district secretary of UP Apradh Nirodhak Samiti, met the jail superintendent BD Pandey on Friday morning and presented its proposal.
The jail superintendent gave positive response and helped in releasing the convicts. Vijay Verma, deputy secretary, provided Rs 1000 to each released prisoner for their travel expenses.
The delegation urged the jail superintendent to provide a list of other prisoners so that the committee could rehabilitate them.
The jail superintendent said that the committee had been in touch and when its members came to know about four prisoners, they offered to deposit their fine amount and get them released.
