Anganwadi workers in Bhubaneswar rallied near the state assembly demanding government recognition and a pay increase. They feel that despite their hard work on various government projects, they are not recognized as government servants and their salaries have not been increasing. The workers are demanding a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 and Rs 9,000 for helpers until their recognition as government servants. Tension erupted in Vijayawada as anganwadi workers were arrested while protesting for a pay increase. Despite being denied permission, hundreds of workers gathered in the city, prompting police to arrest them and set up check posts to prevent them from reaching their intended protest site. Trade unions CITU and AITUC supported the workers and staged protests. This comes amid similar demands from anganwadi workers in other parts of India, including Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where they rallied for government recognition and higher wages. In Dakshina Kannada, a cash crunch has affected egg procurement for anganwadis, causing concerns about the supply of eggs to pregnant women and children.
