Amrit Bharat: PM lays foundation for revamp of four Kanpur rly stns
Kanpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, virtually laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of four stations of the district including Kanpur Central along with 504 other stations across the country, under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme.Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, 508 railway stations across the country and overall about 1,300 stations, have been chosen for the modernisation work. The foundation stone laying program took place at the Central Station in the presence of MPs Satyadev Pachauri and Devendra Singh Bhole, MLAs and senior railway officers.“Beautification work will be accried out the Kanpur Central Station and world class facilities will also be made available for the convenience of passengers. Apart from the Central railway station, Panki, Govindpuri and Anwarganj railway stations will also be beautified. A budget of Rs 825 crore has been passed for the revamp work at the railway stations,” said MP Satyadev Pachauri. Around 300 to 400 trains pass through the Kanpur Central station on the Howrah Delhi route of NCR division.Majority of the passengers make their entrance from the City side, while the same pressure remains on the Cantt side as well because people who come by vehicles prefer to come to the Cantt side. One of the five Central Indian railway stations, the Kanpur Central station was built in 1930. A senior railway official said that many changes were been made from time to time, but considering the rush of passengers and facilities, a major transformation was required. “Subsequently, a blueprint for redevelopment of the Central Station was drawn. Rejuvenation work worth Rs 825 crore would be done at Kanpur Central Station and Panki Dham Station under the first phase of the project,” he said, and added, “In the second phase, Rs 32.2 crore will be spent on beautifying Govindpuri and Anwarganj stations.”According to a communique, the redevelopment will provide passenger modern amenities along with ensuring well-designed traffic circulation, intermodal integration and well-designed signage for the guidance of passengers. The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture.
