Agra beat Kashi by 81 runs, win veteran cricket title
Kanpur: Agra defeated Varanasi by 81 runs in the final of UP Veteran Cricket Championship, clinching the Dr Gaur Hari Singhania TSH trophy on Sunday.
Upon winning the toss, Varanasi elected to field. Agra scored 5 for 187 in their allotted 20 overs at the TSH ground. Dheeraj Sharma, Harveer Singh and Kaushal Sharma were the main contributors, scoring 51, 34 and 32 runs respectively. Nisar Siddiqui claimed 3 wickets for 35 runs.
Varanasi, while chasing, succumbed to the required run rate of 9 runs per over and were dismissed for 106 in 8.2 overs. Former Ranji trophy player Nasir Ali and Pramod Rai both notched 26 runs each. Agra's Girijesh Sharma and Harveer Singh secured 3 wickets each.
Earlier, former test player Gopal Sharma and Nidhi Pati Singhania's representative Jitendra Awasthi inaugurated the final. Post-match, chief guest Brigadier Sabarul Hasan SM, Station commander Kanpur, presented trophies to the victorious and runner-up teams. Agra's Harveer Singh and Dheeraj Sharma were recognised as best bowler and batsman respectively.
IM Rohatgi, president UP Veteran Cricket Association, Girish Kapoor, secretary, Gopal Sharma, Rahul Sapru, Yogesh Agarwal, Sanjeev Pathak, Jitendra Awasthi, Vijay Dixit, Vivek John, Jai Bajaj, Suresh Sharma, Ashu Mehrotra and others attended the prize distribution function.
