Admin warns gas agencies against failing to clear backlog
Kanpur: Taking serious note of the ongoing chaos in LPG cylinder deliveries, the district administration on Wednesday directed all gas agencies to clear the existing backlog within two to three days, warning of strict action, including lodging of FIRs, against defaulters.
The administration also imposed a total fine of ₹11.18 lakh on two agencies for irregularities in the delivery system. Bhagwat Gas Agency was fined ₹4.68 lakh, while Sumita Gas Agency faced a penalty of ₹6.50 lakh. The action follows multiple complaints regarding non-delivery of gas cylinders and the inconvenience faced by consumers.
In response, the district magistrate convened a review meeting and made it clear that negligence leading to public inconvenience would not be tolerated. Officials have been instructed to scale up home delivery operations and ensure that all pending deliveries are completed within a maximum of three days under any circumstances.
The district magistrate issued a stern warning that failure to comply within the stipulated time frame would result in strict action, including registration of FIRs against agency operators.
Emphasizing transparency and accountability, the district magistrate directed that each gas agency must deploy a responsible employee at the office daily between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to register consumer complaints and ensure their prompt resolution. Maintaining a complaint register has been made mandatory, with instructions to submit records regularly to the supply inspector concerned.
Additionally, agencies have been asked to prepare and submit daily backlog reports to the District Supply Officer to facilitate close monitoring of the situation.
During the review, officials revealed a significant backlog of LPG cylinders across agencies. Sumita Gas Agency reported 2,102 pending deliveries, Bhagwat Gas Agency 3,588, and Meera Gas Agency 2,097.
Expressing strong displeasure over the situation, the district magistrate issued an ultimatum to normalize operations within three days.
The meeting was attended by additional district magistrate (Civil Supplies) Rajesh Kumar, district supply officer Rakesh Kumar, divisional LPG sales head of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd Manvendra Bhatnagar and officials from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
