KANPUR: The persons associated with NGOs working against female foeticide considered the action as too little and too late. Fast and stringent action is to be taken against those involved in such heinous acts.
"Some culprits have been caught but there is a wide network of these criminals. It is really disgusting that doctors are involved such ignoble acts," said a health official.
He also flayed the medical associations trying to protect the offenders.
Dr
Sandeep Mishra, a member of Indian Medical Association, was also arrested.
This was a small attempt made by an NGO and due to unavailability of proper police and administrative support they just traced some of the culprits. The bigger culprits are still roaming freely.
The representative of an NGO said that the termination of female foetus is flourishing only because of the people want to have a male child. Female foeticide could lead to polyandry, bride buying, increase in violence and sexual crimes, ignorance and neglect of female infants. "Mere legislation is not enough to deal with this problem that has roots in social behaviour and prejudices," he added.
